Amar Kanwar Such a Morning

Amar Kanwar’s latest film, which premiered at documenta 14 in Athens and Kassel in 2017, narrates a modern fictional parable about two people’s quiet engagement with truth. In the film a renowned mathematics professor retires, cutting his career short unexpectedly, and retreats to the wilderness to live in an abandoned train carriage. Over time, the professor records his epiphanies and hallucinations in an almanac of the dark, an examination of 49 types of darkness.

This exhibition includes both the feature length film and the ongoing multi layered installation Letters, that expands on the narrative from Such a Morning.

In parallel with this exhibition, Amar Kanwar’s The Sovereign Forest will be on view at The NYU Abu Dhabi Art Gallery from January 23 to May 30, 2020.
