JESSICA MEIN

JESSICA MEIN

17 January - 16 April 2016 | Warehouse E51 | Topologies

Topologies is a work that captures surfaces and impressions of Alserkal Avenue using rubbings, scanning, drawing, photography and stop-motion animation. Over a series of three months, the artist will be based on the site of the future Alserkal residency, archive and study centre. The collected rubbings, together with images of Mein’s own small-scale interventions into the Avenue, will be compiled into an encyclopaedic series of books that document and preserve a way of seeing and constructing details of time and place.

This work was developed as part of the Alserkal Avenue Programme first season, which sets out to critically examine the expanding concepts of community and belonging in Dubai. Commissioned artists are invited to investigate the industrial heritage of Al Quoz and the points of intersection between the Avenue and its neighbourhood through performance, social practice, research and public art.

Visits can be arranged by contacting aqua@alserkalavenue.ae.
