In this episode of Conversations on the Avenue, we speak to UAE Unlimited Executive Director Shobha Shamdsani about the exhibition Ishara: Signs, Symbols & Shared Languages and the satellite platform she manages. Shamdsani is also Art Adviser to H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan and Director of his Modern & Contemporary Middle Eastern Art Collection.

Founded and supported by H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, UAE Unlimited hosts an annual exhibition that features emerging artists based in the UAE. Each year, the platform travels to different cities in the country, specifically Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Dubai.

This year, they partnered with Alserkal Programming to present Ishara in Concrete. Curated by Karim Sultan, the exhibition featured new works by 10 UAE-based artists, in addition to visual poetry by guest artists Ramin Haerizadeh, Rokni Haerizadeh and Hesam Rahmanian. The selected artists for the 2018 edition of UAE Unlimited were Amna Al Dabbagh, Cheb Moha, Chndy, Dina Khorchid, Farah Al Qasimi, Flounder Lee, Nasir Nasrallah, Saba Qizilbash, Salem Al Mansoori, and Shaikha Al Ketbi.

Ishara: Signs, Symbols & Shared Languages was on view at Concrete from 5 March to 1 April 2018.
