The diverse works amassed over 20 years by collector and patron Ramin Salsali conjure up classical motifs inspired by nature and spirituality often associated with ancient aesthetics (Behdad Lahooti’s Conversation, 2009), as well as seminal moments in art history (Hazem Harb’s 2015 chairs recalling Joseph Kosuth’s 1968 One and Three Chairs). Capturing the paradigm shift away from the ‘handmade’ during the Modernist period towards an embracement of more sophisticated technologies, Sculpture considers the material evolution of sculpture and the dialogue between the dichotomous philosophies of tradition and modernity as the medium continues to conceptually and formally transcend aesthetic and theoretical parameters.
