Gulf Photo Plus (GPP) is inviting submissions from the photography community for our upcoming community exhibition, "Behind The Portrait".
We are encouraging photographers to submit their most meaningful images, and also to tell us in words the story behind the portrait. Portraiture has come a long way from the very first daguerreotypes of 1839, and with time the definition of “portrait” has evolved. Contemporary photography embraces a much wider interpretation of what was commonly understood to be a “portrait”. No longer bound to a standard head-and-shoulders composition, we can step back and examine the environment, or alternatively move closer and focus on a small detail. A portrait can be any image that we feel tells a visual story of identity, which may not include a human figure at all.
Submissions are open to all, including those based in the UAE as well as internationally, until August 15, 2017. There is no fee for entry and entries can be submitted online at gulfphotoplus.com/opencall. The final selection will be evaluated after reviewing each image and text submission together, and the selections will be exhibited in the Gulf Photo Plus gallery in Alserkal Avenue from September 13th.
