An Urdu play written and produced in Dubai is seeking to revive the spirit and tradition of letter-writing, which is thought to be rapidly disappearing under the onslaught of communication technology. Mian Biwi
Mian Biwi aur Wagah (Husband, Wife and the Wagah Border) is the name of the play and it will be re-staged at The Junction, Alserkal Avenue, on Oct. 13-14. It is based on a series of letters narrating a mixed bag of events and slice-of-life stories. The letters encapsulate human experiences and frailties and are a menagerie of tales wrapped in nostalgic exchanges with socio-political ingredients. Mian, Biwi aur Wagah has been designed in a way that takes the audience on an intimate journey of storytelling, exploring many emotions and traversing various landscapes. Mian and Biwi are the husband-wife duo while Wagah – a border crossing between India and Pakistan – takes a human form to become the narrator and a central element in the play.
